Building on the strong foundation established through the community’s 10-year Tourism Master Plan, Visit Fort Wayne is committed to positioning Fort Wayne and Allen County as national leaders in accessibility and Universal Design. Our goal is to set a new standard, one where visitors and residents of all abilities, ages, and backgrounds can fully participate in and enjoy everything our community has to offer.
We invite our community members and the hospitality industry to join us in championing accessibility as a defining attribute of Fort Wayne/Allen County by embracing inclusive practices, engaging in training opportunities, and helping shape a destination where all abilities feel welcome.
Universal Design
Universal Design is the practice of creating experiences, spaces, and services that are welcoming, intuitive, and usable for residents, visitors, and future travelers alike. For Visit Fort Wayne, Universal Design means building a destination where people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities can explore confidently and comfortably. It’s about removing barriers before they appear and designing with inclusiveness at the center, not as an afterthought.
In Fort Wayne/Allen County, we use Universal Design to plan, build, and welcome so that residents and visitors of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds can participate with confidence. Universal Design means creating places, services, and information that are usable by as many people as possible from the start; it complements, and does not replace, reasonable accommodations or assistive devices when needed.
